| It started way back in 1992 when
Ben Fusion discovered dance music. After the acid house phase of the
late 80's / early 90's Ben was still at school, when someone brought
to his attention a early Carl Cox mix tape - "it was fantastic, like
nothing I had ever heard before, continuous dance musicmixed by one
man!", the seed was sown and before long Ben had saved some money
for a pair of second-hand decks and a old broken mixer that a friend
gave to him, with the help from his father they managed to fix the
mixer and he started buying records. "I was quite fortunate because
at the time I waa buying my early records I didn't realise that they
would turn out to be true classics today!". Ben decided to take
things a step further "I was tired of being restrained just to my
bedroom, I wanted to play on a bigger stage", with his mixing
ability finally at a high level Ben decided to make mix tapes, which
he distributed between friends and record shops, gaining positive
feed-back he sent tapes to local promoters, "because I was young a
lot of promoters at the time didn't really take me seriously and had
thought I had copied the tapes from other well known dj's - it was a
frustrating time for me!". So Ben decided to do private house
parties gaining a reputation for working the crowd. "it's much
harder to please a smaller number of people than a big crowd being a
lot more intimate, but I think this has put me in good stead". By now Ben was playing Hardcore and receiving a few bookings from his hard work, playing at RUN TO THE SUN in Newquay (in 2007 being headlined by Above & Beyond) . "It was a real eye opener to play to so many people but good experience as I learned how to mix on a 'big rig'". Then Ben won the HELTER SKELTER 'BREAKING NEW TALENT' competition at Milton Keynes, "it was amazing playing in-between big a-list dj's, I was offered lots of work on the back of it, but unfortately because I was still quite young I couldn't drive, the clubs where miles from my home!". Not disheartened Ben continued to play Hardcore until a party one night, "I was playing at a beach party with about 100 people dancing when I thought that Hardcore was turning a bit stale and running out of ideas".
